Irritable Bowel Sydrome

Lower abdominal cramping or pain is aggravated by ingestion of coarse or raw foods and may be alleviated by defecation or passage of flatus. Related findings include abdominal tenderness, diurnal diarrhea alternating with constipation or normal bowel function, and small stools with visible mucus. Dyspepsia, nausea and abdominal distention with a feeling of incomplete evacuation may also occur. Stress, anxiety, and emotional liability intensify the symptoms.
